Community Development- Resource & Activity Center
The story of CD-RAC began nine years ago; it was founded by a concern group of citizens that decided to take action to enable greater unity and support within their community of Jonestown. In June 2004, CD-RAC began running a after school program. It wasn't until March 2005 that CD-RAC received its letter of determination, and today, the program has expanded into the former health center in town, where the CD-RAC is still located. Over the past ten years CD-RAC has provided services to the community in the areas of youth development and activity, health awareness, housing restoration, and violence. CD-RAC maintains these services in multiple ways, and a huge factor service comes from the volunteers. All these provided services are designed to assist in rehabilitating and enhancing the lives of the citizens.
Jonestown, MS
Jonestown is a small town in Coahoma County at the heart of the Mississippi Delta. The region is culturally rich and historically significant. It is renowned as the birthplace of African American Blues. While this reflects the musical creativity that emerged from the region, it is important to note that the genre originated as a musical expression of hardships of local sharecroppers and tenant farmers. The pains of history still deeply impact the current socioeconomic circumstances of people in Coahoma County. The CD-RAC stands behind our schools and tries to provide the extra needed support for the children of the community to succeed.
